Nagaon: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Guwahati branch organized a sensitization program for Gram Panchayat Presidents and Secretaries of Nagaon district at Nagaon Zilla Parishad Conference Hall, Haibargaon on Tuesday. The program was presided over by Nagaon Zilla Parishad CEO Ananth Kumar Gogoi and Deputy CEO Abhijeet Chakraborty. The program focused on educating elected leaders about the importance of adhering to quality standards in various aspects of daily life and stressed the importance of using standardized construction materials, safe drinking water practices and quality agricultural inputs. Barashjyoti Baishya and Bhaskar Das from Guwahati were the resource persons.
Gram Panchayat Presidents and Secretaries were also briefed about the effective use of Gram Panchayat booklets containing important parameters. They were also encouraged to follow these standards in government procurement to ensure that public funds are used efficiently and effectively. The attendees were provided practical training on “BIS Care” App, which is the official app of BIS. The app provides facility to view license details, verification of hallmark on gold jewellery, filing consumer complaints etc.
