Hearing of 2879 cases in Lok Adalat
Chamba. National Lok Adalats were organized on Saturday by the State Legal Services Authority with the objective of reducing the number of pending cases in various courts of District Chamba and resolving the cases on the basis of agreement between the parties. About 2879 cases related to road accident claims, labor disputes, electricity and water bills, matrimonial disputes (except divorce), land acquisition, pay and allowances and retirement were heard in Lok Adalats.
Most of the cases were related to the Motor Vehicles Act. Vishal Kaundal, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Chamba, said that Lok Adalats are organized once in three months. There is no court fee of any kind in these Lok Adalats. The special thing is that the award passed by Lok Adalats is binding on both the parties. There can be no appeal against this either. Vishal Kaundal said that there is a provision to get free legal aid through the authority.
