Heavy rains cause waterlogging in Tinsukia’s Baghjan, disrupting normal life

Tinsukia: Heavy rains on Tuesday evening, April 28, significantly disrupted normal life in Baghjan and surrounding areas of Tinsukia district, Assam. The rain, which began in the afternoon, intensified by evening, leading to widespread waterlogging in many low-lying areas.

The continuous downpour flooded roads in Baghjan, Dighaltarang, and surrounding areas, transforming them into canal-like structures at many locations. This made movement difficult for both pedestrians and vehicles.

According to locals, the sudden rise in water levels completely disrupted normal routine. In many places, water filled roads and streets, making it difficult for people to leave their homes.

Tiniali Bazaar, a major trading center in the area, where vegetables, fish, and household items are sold in large quantities, also experienced the effects of the rain. The flooding forced shopkeepers to close their shops early.

Traders also suffered losses due to the waterlogging, as many perishable goods were soaked and ruined. This resulted in financial losses for small traders.
The rain and waterlogging had the greatest impact on road traffic. Vehicular movement on the main roads connecting Baghjan to Tinsukia city and other parts of Upper Assam came to a virtual halt.
The traffic disruptions caused long delays for people, particularly two-wheeler and auto-rickshaw drivers. Vehicles were stranded in several locations, forcing some to use alternative routes.
Local residents reported that waterlogging occurs in this area every year during the rainy season, but this time the intensity of the rainfall has worsened the situation.
The administrative authorities are monitoring the situation, and the possibility of relief and evacuation arrangements is being considered in the affected areas. However, no major accidents have been reported at the time of writing this news.

People have demanded that the drainage system in the area be strengthened to provide permanent relief from this problem that occurs every year during the rainy season.
Overall, the heavy rains in the Baghjan area of Tinsukia have severely affected life, business and traffic, and the locals are now waiting for normalcy to return.
