Heavy rains in Delhi, traffic slow at many places, roads jammed
New Delhi (IANS). The national capital received heavy rain on Saturday and the mercury was recorded at 34.6 degrees Celsius, slightly below the seasonal average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The torrential rain brought with it many challenges. The entire city was water-logged and traffic was slow as roads were blocked.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 27 degrees Celsius on Saturday, bringing some respite from the persistent heat.
IMD officials said the relative humidity ranged between 64 per cent and 92 per cent.
The weather office has predicted a cloudy sky with light to moderate rain and thundershowers on Sunday.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 34 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The IMD said in a tweet around 7.30 pm, “Some places in Delhi (Lodhi Road, Nehru Stadium, Vasant Vihar, RK Puram, Defense Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Vasant Kunj), Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Kalkaji, Mehrauli, Tughlakabad) , NCR (Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida) with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty wind reaching 30-40 kmph very likely over adjoining areas during next two hours. “
The rains may lead to a rise in the water level of the Yamuna, which has been flowing above the danger mark of 205.33 meters for several days.
The incessant rains are a matter of grave concern, as it may lead to a rise in the water level of the Yamuna river, which has already crossed the crucial mark of 205.33 meters and remained high for the past several days.
