Himachal Pradesh: Shimla Municipal Corporation officials removed 10 unauthorised street vendors from various markets who were operating without valid licences. Eight vendors were removed from Lower Bazaar, while two were removed from the Ridge. A team led by Tehbazari Inspector Jyoti Prakash conducted two rounds of inspections to identify illegal vendors. On checking, the officials found that these vendors did not have proper licences and later removed them, with their goods confiscated. Prakash said that most of these vendors are from states like Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
He emphasised that unauthorised vendors often operate in Shimla markets, leading to congestion. To overcome this, weekly inspections are conducted every Sunday. “These vendors create unnecessary congestion, which may delay emergency response, such as during a fire or medical crisis,” Prakash said. Additionally, a mock drill was conducted in Lower Bazaar to assess emergency response time.
