CM said, today on the auspicious occasion of Govardhan Puja, I got the great fortune of worshipping Gau Mata and serving Gau with my family at Raipur residence. On this occasion, I paid homage to the importance of Gau Mata, a symbol of our culture and tradition, and took a pledge to serve her. Heartiest wishes of Govardhan Puja to all.

Let us tell you that on the night of Diwali, the festival of Gauri-Gaura marriage was celebrated in Chhattisgarh as per tradition. On this occasion, Gauri-Gaura made of clay, which are considered to be the symbol of Shiva-Parvati, were installed and worshipped. Their marriage was performed amidst folk songs and dance.

The tradition of celebrating Gaura-Gauri Puja in Chhattisgarh has been going on for years. There is a belief of getting beaten with a stick on one’s hands on the occasion of Govardhan Puja and Gaura Gauri Puja. It is believed that after getting beaten with a stick, all kinds of sorrows and troubles go away.
