Husband and in-laws killed pregnant woman for want of daughter

Kolkata (IANS). In a horrific incident in Malda district of West Bengal, a pregnant woman was brutally murdered by her husband and in-laws on the pretext that she might give birth to another girl.

The incident had happened a few days ago and in an attempt to destroy the evidence, the accused husband and his family members had even buried Reshma Khatoon’s body in a local graveyard.

However, the victim’s family members approached the local court demanding immediate removal of the body from the graveyard. Police said the body was taken out of the grave and sent for post-mortem on Saturday.

The husband and his parents are currently absconding. Policemen of Harishchandrapur police station have started investigating the case. An alert has been sent to all police stations with photographs of the absconding accused.

The victim’s father Nazir Alam told the police that his daughter was married three years ago, since then her in-laws were continuously humiliating her due to their inability to give her the amount of Rs 2 lakh as demanded by them.

Alam further claimed that she gave birth to a baby girl after a year of marriage, which made her husband and in-laws even more angry with her.

She said that when she became pregnant again this year, the accused tortured her further thinking that she might give birth to another girl.

Alam claimed that she was eventually strangled to death.
