Hyderabad: Counting of votes for Lok Sabha elections begins, results expected by 3 pm

Hyderabad: Counting of votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Telangana began at 8 am on Tuesday. The results are expected by 3 pm. The results of the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency are likely to be declared first, while the results of the Malkajgiri constituency are expected to be declared last, due to the large number of rounds. Initial trends show that the BJP is leading in about eight Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress is ahead in six seats. BRS is leading in two parliamentary constituencies. AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi is still leading in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

525 candidates are in the fray for a total of 17 parliamentary constituencies. Counting of 2.17 lakh postal ballots began at 8 am and was completed in the first 30 minutes, after which votes from electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be counted. In the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, 65.67 percent of the 3.32 crore voters exercised their franchise on May 13. This marks an increase of 2.83 per cent compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where BRS had won 9 seats, BJP 4, Congress 3 and AIMIM 1. Besides, counting is also underway for the by-election of Secunderabad Cantonment constituency, where Congress is leading. The by-election was necessitated due to the sudden death of sitting BRS MLA G Lasya Nanditha in a road accident.
