Hyderabad: Organ donation by brain dead house surgeon saves four lives

Hyderabad: The family of a woman house surgeon employed at Kamineni Hospital in L B Nagar has donated her organs, saving the lives of four people. The woman was injured in a road accident in Hyderabad and was declared brain dead. Last week, the young house surgeon was travelling with a friend after attending a function when they met with an accident. The house surgeon’s friend died on the spot while the young doctor was rushed to Kamineni Hospital where she was given intensive care treatment including ventilator support for nearly a week.
The hospital staff tried their best to save their colleague but there was no improvement in her health condition. Finally, the team of doctors at Kamineni Hospital declared her brain dead. The bereaved family members then decided to donate her organs under the state-run Jeevandan organ donation scheme. A total of four organs of the brain dead house surgeon were donated and four lives were saved, hospital officials said. After the organ donation, the hospital staff said goodbye to the house surgeon by organizing a small farewell ceremony in the hospital and saluted the body of the deceased.
