Hyderabad: Stray dogs and pigs kill contractor

Hyderabad: A contractor died after being attacked by stray dogs and wild boars in a deserted area under the jurisdiction of the RGIA Shamshabad police station on Saturday morning. He suffered multiple injuries. Police said locals reported seeing a young man lying on the road in Madhuranagar Street No. 3 with serious neck injuries. Eyewitnesses told police that the victim was seen in an inebriated state late Friday night. Police, along with a clues team, went to the scene and collected forensic evidence, including footprints from pigs and stray dogs. RGIA Crime Inspector Pawan Kumar identified the deceased as Chinnaraju Narayana Swamy, a contractor living in a nearby hostel. He was from Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu. Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, unconscious due to intoxication, was mauled to death by the pigs and stray dogs. A case of unnatural death has been registered under Section 194 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police said they are investigating all angles, including the possibility of a deliberate attack. The body has been sent to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
Four injured in clash over land dispute
Hyderabad: Four youths were injured on Saturday in a clash at Ekshila Venture in Ghatkesar over alleged land grabbing, which included an attack on police officers. The clash erupted after a dispute between plot owners at Ekshila Venture and real estate businessman Venkatesh, who had purchased land at the venture. For the past few years, plot owners have alleged that the businessman’s supporters have been preventing them from entering their plots and guarding the area.
Previously, cases were filed against some of these supporters at the Pocharam police station for threatening and abusing plot owners.
To prevent any untoward incident, police had already deployed pickets in the areas surrounding Ekshila Ventures. Tensions escalated again on Friday when plot owners blocked officials who had come to survey the project and staged a protest.
On Saturday, the situation worsened when some plot owners visited the project and were allegedly obstructed by the businessman’s followers. This led to a scuffle between the two groups, which quickly turned violent. When police officers from the Pocharam police station arrived to disperse the crowd and restore peace, they were allegedly attacked with iron rods.
Four young men sustained serious injuries in the clash and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said both groups filed complaints against each other, based on which cases were registered at the Pocharam and Medipally police stations.
Official responses from both police stations are awaited.
Sushmita’s family demands investigation into dowry torture
Hyderabad: The body of 27-year-old Sushmita, who allegedly committed suicide after poisoning her 11-month-old son in Meerpet, was handed over to her parents, who continue to allege foul play. Meanwhile, Sushmita’s mother, Lalita, who had attempted suicide, is still unconscious and undergoing treatment, Meerpet Inspector Kashi Vishwanath told Deccan Chronicle.
The inspector said the family alleges that Sushmita was being harassed for dowry by her husband, Yashwanth Reddy, but the police will take any action, including arresting him, only after recording Lalita’s statement.
The husband, a chartered accountant, publicly denied the allegations. He told police that before her death, the couple had a minor argument and nothing more. He alleged that when his wife did not answer the door, he called his wife and mother-in-law 20 times. It is reported that he broke the window and discovered the death. He reportedly said, “I have no reason to harm my wife or child. My in-laws are harassing me.”
The deceased’s relatives have questioned the sequence of events described by the husband. The woman’s maternal uncle, Sanjeev Reddy, alleged that at around 8:22 pm on the day of the incident, the husband made a video call and showed him the bodies of Sushmita and the child. He claimed, “He was shouting that even if he hanged her, it wouldn’t matter.”
The family also expressed doubt over reports that Sushmita may have died by suicide. The maternal uncle alleged, “We strongly suspect she was murdered and her death was later made to look like a suicide,” and demanded a detailed investigation.
Sanjeev Reddy further stated that he had raised Sushmita. It is reported that property worth ₹15 crore was registered in her name.
Another relative alleged that the woman was repeatedly harassed over minor domestic issues. “She was harassed daily over food and other small matters,” he said. “We want to know what really happened inside the house.”
