Pakistan: At least six people, including four children, were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast near a school in Peshawar city on Tuesday. The officers provided this information. District Emergency Officer Naveed Akhtar told Xinhua news agency that the roadside IED exploded near Peshawar Public School at around 9.10 am. The injured have been admitted to Lady Reading Hospital in the city. The condition of two children is critical.
After the explosion, police have cordoned off the area and investigation is underway. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Interim Home Minister Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti strongly condemned the incident, saying “Children are the future of this country; We will protect them under all circumstances.” Caretaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Justice (retd) Arshad Hussain Shah condemned the blast and sought a report from the police.
Tuesday’s blast came amid a surge in terrorist activities in Pakistan, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, after the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militant group ended a ceasefire with the government in November last year.
