IMD gave information, south-west monsoon has withdrawn from entire India
New Delhi (ANI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday officially said that the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the entire country. No significant rainfall was recorded during the last 24 hours. The IMD said the northeast monsoon or winter monsoon is likely to set in in the next three days.
According to the official release of IMD, the initial phase of Northeast Monsoon is likely to be weak.
Earlier, the Meteorological Department had announced that conditions are gradually becoming favorable for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon from the country on September 25. The India Meteorological Department said the southwest monsoon has become active over Tamil Nadu, with rain occurring at most places over south and north Tamil Nadu, and light rain over Puducherry.
According to the IMD, rainfall over the entire country during the monsoon season (June–September) was 94% of its average period. The southwest monsoon reached the entire country by July 2, six days before the normal date. It established itself over Kerala on 8 June, 7 days behind the normal date, and over western Rajasthan on 25 September, with a delay of 8 days.
The arrival of Southwest Monsoon started over southeast Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands and South Andaman Sea on 19 May.
Highest rainfall occurred in North-West India and least rainfall occurred in Eastern and North-Eastern India. Extremely heavy rainfall events were witnessed mainly over Rajasthan in June due to the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’.
The Northeast Monsoon is the counterpart of the Southwest Monsoon and usually occurs between October and December. (ANI)
