iMessage compatibility with chat apps for Android doesn’t add anything
Nothing has introduced a chat app that provides Apple’s iMessage compatibility for Nothing Phone 2 users. Nothing Phone users can send messages to other iMessage users via blue bubbles on their phones with the Chat app. This will enable seamless communication with iPhone users.
Generally, compatibility issues were observed between Apple’s iMessage and RCS-supporting messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Google Messages. However, Nothing’s new chat messaging app will solve this problem and allow users to seamlessly communicate between iMessages and Android.
“Nothing, we believe in windows, not walls. If messaging services are dividing phone users, we want to break down those barriers,” the company added in an update.
Nothing Chat will be available exclusively for Nothing Phone (2) users on Google Play Store starting November 17th.
how it works
The Nothing Chats app is developed in partnership with Sunbird Messaging. According to the company, Sunbird’s architecture is designed to deliver messages directly between users without storing them on an intermediary server.
Sunbird reportedly stores user iCloud credentials in an encrypted database. Which was temporarily stored in a Mac Mini located in the US or Europe, depending on the user’s region. It serves as a routing point for sending and receiving iMessage-compatible texts and media. Jane Nho, Nothing’s US PR head, said the data would be deleted after two weeks of inactivity.
Nothing Chats app enables users to exchange messages through blue bubbles. The app is currently in beta and supports both individual and group messaging. It has features like typing indicators, full size media sharing and voice notes. More features and improvements will be added in future updates, including read receipts, message responses, and message replies. Users can stay informed about updates by signing up for notifications.
Nothing states that all Nothing chat messages are encrypted so neither Sunbird nor Nothing can access your messages or shared files.
At launch, Nothing Chat will be available exclusively to Nothing Phone(2) users in the US, Canada, UK, and EU. The company has not yet announced when it will be expanded to other countries or older Nothing Phone (1) models. Additionally, the app will not be available for download on the Google Play Store, it will be offered exclusively on Nothing.
