In the case of harassment of a female police officer, the court sentenced the accused to jail
Kochi (IANS). A Kerala court has sentenced a man to jail for assaulting a woman police officer. It is being told that this person harassed the female police officer by calling her 300 times in 48 hours.
The Additional Judicial Magistrate court in Ernakulam sentenced the accused Jose to three years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 for the offense of sexual assault. Also sentenced to one year simple imprisonment and fine of Rs 5,000 for causing nuisance. The court said that both the jail sentences will run concurrently.
Jose made these calls from his personal mobile number to the official landline of ‘Vanita Police Station’.
According to the woman police officer, Jose made these calls between July 10 and 11, 2019, and whoever picked up his phone had to listen to his lewd comments.
Station officials were forced to put the phone receivers aside in an attempt to interdict the calls.
The court was also told that Jose had a history of creating such “nuisance” at several police stations.
A complaint was filed on July 11, 2019, which led to Jose’s arrest.
The court, in its order, said, “The accused has not only caused mental agony to the prosecutrix and other staff members of the police station, but also affected their public duty by not taking other phone calls from the general public, which is an emergency situation. Could have been.”
The court acquitted the accused of the offense of attempt to have physical contact and explicit sexual relations.
