Makhana Overnight Porridge
When it comes to breakfast, oats are the most preferred, but instead of this, you can lightly crush dry makhana and store it for a week, and at night, instead of oats or porridge, you can take it soaked in milk.
how to prepare
Roast some makhanas in the oven or in a frying pan, crush them coarsely using a mortar and pestle (or simply stuff them in a cloth bag and mash them with a rolling pin).
Store in an airtight box with fruits, dry fruits, seeds of your choice and mix with cinnamon/cardamom powder or vanilla powder, or even cocoa powder for a great taste
To prepare it, fill a jar half full with the makhana mixture, add milk of your choice and store in the refrigerator overnight
The next morning, add fresh fruit or sweeteners of your choice and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast!
Paranthas made with powdered makhana are perfect for a gluten-free option that serves as a wholesome meal.
how to make
Roast the makhanas, grind them into powder and store them in a cool and dry place for a few weeks.
To make paranthas, knead the dry powder with mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes (they help in making the dough of the flour) Spices of your choice can also be added
Use sheets of cling film or lots of dry flour to roll out the parathas and cook them as you would any other paratha.
Serve hot with pickle, chutney and curd
Makhana Curry
Phool Makhana is the perfect substitute for a standard curry recipe, its crunchy and airy texture absorbs the curry, making the makhana irresistible
how to make
Make a curry base for a vegetable or meat curry of your choice and add the makhana when it comes to a boil
Cook for three to four minutes and serve immediately
