Income Tax Department raided MLA’s premises, five teams arrived
Kolkata: Income Tax Department officials have launched raids and search operations at multiple locations, including the residence, office, liquor shop, and rice mill, associated with Trinamool Congress MLA Tanmay Ghosh from the Bishnupur Assembly constituency in West Bengal.
Reportedly, five teams from the Income Tax Department, along with Central Armed Forces personnel, arrived at these premises around 10 am. Notably, Tanmay Ghosh switched from the Trinamool Congress to the BJP before the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. He won the Bishnupur constituency seat as a BJP candidate during that election but returned to the Trinamool Congress on August 30, 2021. However, official records of the West Bengal Assembly still list him as a BJP MLA.
The raid occurred on a day when the MLA was in Kolkata. At the time of this news report, neither Tanmay Ghosh nor any other Trinamool Congress leader has issued a statement regarding this development.
On the previous day, the Income Tax Department had issued summons to Akhil Giri, the Minister of State in charge of the Correctional Services Department of West Bengal, and his son Suprakash Giri. The summons were sent via email, directing both the minister and his son to appear at the Income Tax Department office in Kolkata on November 13.
