Income tax raids on premises of ex-Trinamool MLA and others in Bengal

On Wednesday morning, rent tax officials identified the residences of various businessmen, including a former deputy of the ruling Congress party, in different locations in Bengal Occidental, an official said.

The officer said, in the areas of Asansol, Durgapur and Raniganj, the radar has gained ground, which means entrepreneurs have not been paying taxes for many years.

“Our agents have come to Durgapur and started registering the residences of these businessmen from Wednesday till morning,” he told PTI over phone. They are looking for various documents including bank statements and other details of the property.”

TI department officials are also in talks with former TMC MLA Sohrab Ali and other businessmen whose houses are being demolished, the official said.

A large number of effective Central forces are found on guard duty outside the enclosure which is being searched.
