Increase in the number of voters, Chief Electoral Officer gave information
Bhubaneswar: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunj Kumar Dhal said on Friday that there has been an increase in the number of voters in Odisha.
During a press conference, Dhal informed that the number of voters in the draft list has increased from 3,23,52,119 to 3,26,55,213. While we added 6,22,429 voters to the draft list, 3,19,345 voters were removed on various grounds, including death, change of address and people with multiple voter cards.
He also said that the gender ratio of voters in the state has increased and now the gender ratio in the state is 1000:963 as compared to the earlier gender ratio of 1000:961.
In view of the increase in the number of voters, the CEO also increased the number of booths across the state from 37,606 to 37,809.
Dhall said that they will receive complaints regarding errors from the public between October 27 and December 9 and the complaints will be heard till December 26.
CEO-Odisha will launch the voter card revision drive next month and has urged people to correct the errors in their voter cards online or offline during this period.
EVMs and VVPATs have already arrived for the upcoming general elections. In the first phase, verification of EVMs and VVPATs has been completed in 10 districts. In other 20 districts, verification of EVMs, VVPAT will start from November 1 and will be completed by November 15.
