Indore-Ujjain second railway line likely to open for traffic next month

Indore : There is good news for rail passengers as the second rail line between Indore and Ujjain is likely to start from the first week of next month. Track doubling work is in the final stages. The second line which is capable of carrying Vande Bharat trains will save travel time and open the possibility of running more trains from the city. After excessive movement of trains on the approximately 73.79 km long Indore-Ujjain single line, it was decided to carry out doubling work on this section. The entire construction work was divided into three packages.

Doubling work between Ujjain and Karchha (17.68 km) was completed in December 2020 and work on the Karchha-Barlai section of 36.48 km was completed in February this year. Now track doubling work between Barlai and Lakshmibai Nagar section (21.63 km) is nearing completion. ‘Under the track doubling work between Indore and Ujjain section, a total of 22 bridges including 3 major and 19 minor bridges have been constructed. Now, the track between Barlai and Lakshmibai Nagar section has also been made operational.

At present, the work of track linking is being done by the engineering department, while the track distribution department (TRD) is doing the work of overhead equipment (power supply lines), and the work of signaling is being done by the communication department under Traffic Work Order (TWO). being done. Mangalia Railway Station is also being developed under the doubling project, in which 4 railway lines are being increased to 6 lines. The height of three platforms has also been increased. Official sources said that the doubling work will be completed before the end of the month.

The work of track doubling between Indore-Ujjain has reached the final stage. Now track linking, signaling and electrical work is going on between Barlai and Lakshmibai Nagar. The inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is likely to take place on December 29. The track is commissioned for a speed of 110 km/h. Vande Bharat train can also run on this. The second line is likely to open for traffic early next year.

Doubling of Indore-Ujjain section is very beneficial for the development of railway facility of the city. The second line will reduce the congested traffic density and running time of trains on this section. Besides, this will also open the possibility of starting new trains from the city.
