Islands started becoming enemies of life in Jiya

Kullu. If the administration does not immediately remove the islands formed in Parvati and Beas rivers in Bhuntar area of district Kullu, then a big danger may arise in the future. Due to the islands, the water level of both the rivers can rise towards the village and cause huge damage. Chairman of Bhuntar Improvement Committee, Megh Singh Kashyap said that due to flood caused by natural disaster, an island has been formed in the Parvati river near Jiya village.

Due to which the direction of the river has turned towards the village and the villagers are in danger. We have requested the government and administration several times to get rid of this menace, but no one is taking this problem seriously. Whereas after a month the water level of the rivers will increase and then nothing will happen.

The risk of floods will increase again in the coming rainy season. The Cabinet Minister, who came to take stock of the damage during the flood, himself visited many places including Jiya village. The villagers had demanded removal of debris from the island in the river along with installation of security wall and reconstruction of the foot bridge damaged by flood. But till now no action has been taken by the department. The work of collecting debris from the Beas river near Jia Sangam has started, but no machinery has yet arrived to remove the debris from the island in the Parvati river. Megh Singh Kashyap said that wherever dangerous islands have formed in the river, they should be removed immediately.

Jiya and Hathithan villages are in danger due to Bhuntar city islands. Whereas Jiya Panchayat and the villagers have also appealed to the government and the district administration to immediately remove the debris from the Parvati river and install a security wall. People of Jiya say that we are forced to live in an environment of fear and no one understands our pain. Megh Singh Kashyap said that when there was flood in Kullu district in July 2023, in view of the danger, people spent the nights in the houses of relatives etc. People had tears in their eyes after seeing the scene of devastation. What was happening to those whose water had reached near their houses? Those whose homes were destroyed were screaming and expressing their pain. Perhaps the government and administration are waiting for the rains. The villagers sing that after two months the water level of the river will rise, then our lives will depend on God. Everyone knows that the situation has become very bad due to the formation of islands in Parvati river and Beas. He said that there is no religion greater than humanity. After a month the water level of the river will start rising. Even after 6 months of flood, no work has been completed here in the name of safety.
