Jagannath temple dress code: Tourists to be made aware of the rules through hotels and servitors

Puri: Jagannath temple dress code issue, temple administration urges servitors, hotels to create awareness among visitors. In a historic decision, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) October 9 made it mandatory for the devotees visiting the Puri Srimandir to wear ‘decent attire.’

As per the decision taken by the SJTA, the new rule of ‘decent attire’ to visit the Puri Srimandir will come into force from the New Year (January 1, 2024). The SJTA has also made elaborate arrangement to create awareness about the Jagannath temple dress code among the devotees.

“Devotees are requested to come to the temple wearing proper clothes. Children below 12 years old with half pants will be allowed into the shrine. But elders wearing half pants, ripped jeans, and sleeveless dresses won’t be allowed. It is a spiritual place and not a park or a beach,” said Ranjan Kumar Das, chief administrator of SJTA.

The Jagannath Temple Police (JTP) personnel, who are engaged at the Singhadwar, and Pratihari servitors, appointed inside the 12th century shrine will keep a close eye on the devotees and their attire and the visitors without descent dress will not be allowed to enter the Jagannath Temple in Puri.
