Jalandhar: Partner in crime became murderer, shot two people due to dispute

Jalandhar: Two men sleeping at a friend’s house near Lamba Pind Chowk here this morning were shot dead by their friend. Shiv (24), a resident of Mota Singh Nagar, and Vinay Tiwari (22), a resident of Basti Sheikh, were killed by their friend Manna, a resident of Mitthapur, following a heated argument. According to police, the three were wanted in a shootout incident in Mota Singh Nagar 20 days ago. The trio had allegedly shot at two youths, Karanveer Singh and Honey Chahal, leaving them critically injured. A case was registered against them under sections of attempt to murder and Arms Act along with several other sections at police station division number-6, following which they went into hiding. Initial investigations revealed that the three had a quarrel late Friday night when they were staying at home together. Angry over the dispute, Manna waited for Shiv and Vinay to fall asleep and shot them multiple times early in the morning. Seven to eight bullet shells have reportedly been recovered from the spot. Sources say that the incident took place due to old enmity between the victims and their previous targets in the Mota Singh Nagar shootout. Karanvir Singh, who sustained bullet injuries in his stomach, and Honey Chahal, who sustained bullet injuries in his leg and hand, had a dispute with the victims. The city police, including teams from Rama Mandi police station and CIA staff, are investigating the case and have launched a search for Manna. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway in the case. Addressing the media, ACP Central Nirmal Singh confirmed that the incident took place this morning. He said that a quarrel broke out between the three friends (accused and two victims) allegedly following a late-night dispute, following which Manna allegedly opened fire, resulting in the death of one person while the other victim succumbed at the Civil Hospital. He said that an FIR has been registered against the accused at the Rama Mandi police station and investigation is currently underway. “We are searching nearby areas and escape routes, we suspect that the accused has fled the city,” police officials said.
