Jalandhar: Two gangs of robbers busted, 4 arrested
Jalandhar: In a major crackdown on criminal activities, Jalandhar Rural Police has busted two robbery gangs, resulting in the arrest of four suspects including a woman involved in several theft and robbery cases. The operation resulted in the recovery of 14 stolen mobile phones, a motorcycle and a weapon, which is a significant success in the police’s fight against crime. In the first operation, Patara Police arrested two persons Monu and Lucky Behman, both residents of Rama Mandi. These arrests were made in connection with the robbery committed on January 2, 2025, targeting a soldier Baljeet of Ferozepur.
The victim was travelling in an e-rickshaw towards Jalandhar Cantt when the suspects turned the vehicle to a deserted spot near Bhojowal Gate Link Road. The suspects attacked the victim and looted his mobile phone and purse containing Rs 1,500 and then fled leaving the e-rickshaw. Both the accused have been arrested and are in police custody. Investigation is underway to recover additional stolen properties and establish their involvement in other criminal activities. In a separate operation, Goraya police under the supervision of DSP Phillaur, Sarwan Singh Bal arrested Dinesh Sharma alias Babbu and Loveleen Kaur from Rahon who were involved in incidents of robbery on the highway. These arrests were made during a naka operation. 13 stolen mobile phones, one Honda Shine motorcycle (PB-08-FM-1086) and one sharp-edged weapon were recovered from the accused.
Preliminary investigation revealed that these two were active in Phillaur, Apra, Goraya and Mukandpur, targeting passengers using weapons and threatening to loot their belongings. They have confessed their involvement in 14 robbery incidents. Separate cases have been registered in Patara and Goraya. The accused have been remanded to police custody and further investigation is underway. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said these arrests are a significant step in tackling robbery-related crimes in the district. The police is committed to thoroughly investigate all leads, recover stolen property and ensure the safety of the public. Strict action will be taken against criminals active in the district. Jalandhar Rural Police is continuing to investigate these cases. Efforts are also being made to link the suspects to other unsolved robbery cases in the area.
