Jammu News: Railways conducted successful trial run on Chenab rail bridge

Jammu. Jammu: Railways conducted a successful trial run on the world’s highest railway bridge, the newly constructed Chenab Railway. A Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train ran at a speed of 40 kmph on the bridge connecting Sangaldan in Ramban district to Reasi. Sources said regular train services on this route will start soon. According to an official statement of the Railways, the trial run of MEMU was conducted on the newly constructed electrified Reasi-Sangaldan section of the 46-km long route on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link in the afternoon. “It (trial) was conducted successfully starting from Sangaldan at 12.35 pm and reaching Reasi at 2.05 pm. On the way, it passed through nine tunnels of 40.787 km length and the longest tunnel T-44 (11.13 km). For the first time, a fully running train crossed the iconic bridge between Dugga and Bakkal stations over the Chenab river. The statement said that the central span of the world’s highest railway bridge is 467 meters and its height is 359 meters. Reasi, Bakkal, Dugga and Sawalkotiyare stations on this route are located in Reasi district. For the first time, railway electrification work on this section has been done with state-of-the-art technology, Rigid Overhead Conductor System.
