Jammu: Solar plants installed on 1,900 government buildings

Nearly 1,900 government buildings in Jammu and Kashmir have been provided with rooftop solar power plants, where 20,000 remaining buildings will be equipped with solar power by the end of 2025, an official said on Saturday.

Commissioner Secretary, Science and Technology, Saurabh Bhagat said government offices have 22,494 registrations across the Union Territory with a sanctioned load of about 486 MW.

Bhagat held a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo to assess the preparedness for saturation of rooftop solar power plants on all government buildings by December, 2025 as per the target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the recently concluded Chief Secretaries meeting. The Commissioner Secretary said that so far around 1,900 buildings have been equipped with solar energy either by the Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) or other departments with a cumulative capacity of 27.61 MW.
