JNU student dies in bike accident inside campus, 3 injured
New Delhi: A 22-year-old student died in a bike accident at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in the early hours of Sunday while his friend who was riding the bike with him was injured. The bike collided with two pedestrian students. Both of them are also injured. Police said the accident occurred when the KTM bike on which the deceased and his friend were travelling, collided with two pedestrians.
The deceased has been identified as Anshu Kumar, a native of Gaya, Bihar, who lived in Sutlej hostel of the university. The officer said that Anshu was studying first year BA in Russian language in JNU.
According to the police, information about the accident at JNU campus in Vasant Kunj North police station was received from AIIMS Trauma Center in the early hours of Sunday. A police team reached AIIMS Trauma Center and upon enquiry, it was found that an accident had taken place between a bike and two pedestrians near Godavari Bus Stop, Godavari. “Anshu was declared dead by the doctors, while the condition of his friend Vishal Kumar (23), a resident of Gaya, is critical,” a senior police officer said. He told that Vishal is not a student of JNU.
“Two pedestrians – Sachin Sharma (25), who currently stays in Periyar Hostel, JNU, and Mrigank Yadav, who currently stays in Satluj Hostel, JNU – are undergoing treatment at the hospital,” the official said.
“Sachin is pursuing MA in political science from JNU and is in critical condition, while the condition of Mrigank, a second-year MA student at the university, is now stable,” the official said. The crime and forensic team has inspected the incident site. “A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC,” the officer said.
