Junior Assistant WESCO Utility sentenced to 1 year jail and fine
KANTABANJI: A junior assistant at WESCO utility has been sentenced to one year’s imprisonment and fine in an Odisha vigilance case, reports said on Saturday.
Manoranjan Nanda, junior assistant (retd) in the office of the SDO of WESCO Utility at Kantabanji in Bolangir district, has been sentenced to imprisonment.
Nanda by Odisha Vigilance in Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No. 56 dated 26.07.2017 u/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(D)/7 P.C. The charge sheet was filed in. Prohibition of Demanding and Accepting Bribe from the Complainant Act, 1988.
Bribe was demanded for preparation of revised electricity bill and its processing in his favour, Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir convicted him and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for a term of 1 year and fine of Rs. 5,000/-.
Apart from this, for non-payment of fine, P.C. For the offense under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the Indian Penal Code, he will have to undergo additional rigorous imprisonment of 2 months. Act, 1988. The court sentenced him to undergo additional rigorous imprisonment for a term of 2 years and a fine of Rs 5,000/- for the offense and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 2 months. Section 7 P.C. Under the Act, 1988.
Both the sentences will run concurrently. Odisha Vigilance will now approach the competent authority to stop the pension of Junior Assistant (Retd) Manoranjan Nanda after his conviction.
