Karnataka: Deputy Commissioner’s official vehicle seized over delay in land compensation

Kalaburagi: Court staff on Thursday seized the official car of the Deputy Commissioner of Kalaburagi for delaying compensation in a land acquisition case. The case involved the attachment of land for the construction of a treatment plant near Nandikur, despite a court order. Later, the vehicle was released with conditions after receiving assurances that compensation would be paid.
This action followed an order from the Principal Senior Civil Court directing the attachment of the Deputy Commissioner’s car for delaying compensation to the landowner.
Officials arrived to seize the car with a tow truck.
This case dates back nearly 20 years. In 2005, several acres of land were seized for the construction of a STP near Nandikur. Prakash Makalappa lost two acres of land, and the compensation awarded to him by the then Sub-Divisional Officer, he claimed, was insufficient. He challenged this claim and approached the court.
