Karnataka HC issues notice to MLA Kaneez Fathima in election petition case

Bengaluru: The Superior Tribunal of Karnataka has issued a notification to MLA Kaneez Fathima in a case challenging her election for giving false information about her assets in the election jury declaration. Fatima was elected MLA from Gulbarga North electoral district representing Congress in the assembly elections held in May this year. The tribunal comprising Justice CM Poonacha, which heard the plea on Friday, issued a notice and adjourned the hearing for four weeks, allowing the applicant to present his objections. The petitioner, A S Sharanabasappa, had contested the election on the same seat with the JD(U) candidature and lost. No. 1 was deliberately concealed and “no facts have come to light… with respect to assets and inactions”, the plea said. The plea claimed that Fatima had not disclosed the details of her banking account maintained by the station branch of SBI. He also said that he had not disclosed his ownership of one-third of a house and another property in Bengaluru, which as per claims in 2018 was worth Rs 9.21 million but has now been revealed to be worth only Rs 9.3 million. Was. The petition also said that Fatima had claimed immovable properties worth Rs 14.5 million in 2018, but five years later their value was only Rs 14.64 million, “which is also not acceptable”. Among other things, the petition alleged that the electronically sealed document in which Fatima had submitted the sworn declaration did not mention the name of the other party and, therefore, was invalid.
