Karnataka: Skeletons of five members of the same family recovered from the house

Chitradurga: Skeletons of five members of a family were recovered from a house in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district, police said on Friday. The skeletal remains are suspected to be those of a retired government executive engineer Jagannath Reddy (85), his wife Prema (80), daughter Triveni (62), sons Krishna (60) and Narendra (57), he said.

Although the deceased can be identified only after forensic examination, police said the cause of death will be established through autopsy.

The family members kept to themselves and had serious health problems. Police said he was last seen in 2019 and his residence has been locked since then.

Police came to know about the incident on Thursday through a local media person who was informed by a person in the area.

“We visited the spot on Thursday evening and spoke to acquaintances and relatives of the family. All of them claimed that the family lived a completely secluded life and was facing serious health problems. The family was last seen in June-July Was seen in 2019. A senior police officer said, “The house was always closed. About two months ago, someone on a morning walk had seen the main wooden door broken, but the police were not informed.”

A police visit to the crime scene revealed that the house had been broken into multiple times and vandalized.

Four skeletons (two on the bed, two on the floor) were found in a sleeping position in one room, while another skeleton was found in a lying position in another room, he said.

Experts from Forensic Science Laboratory were called from Davangere to collect evidence. He said the crime scene has been secured and sealed to ensure that the evidence is not tampered with.

“The exact cause of death is not clear. It could be suicide or something else. We are in the initial stage of investigation. We will be able to find out the cause of death only after the forensic investigation and autopsy and reports come in.” Have been received,” the official said.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in Tumakuru, state Home Minister G Parameshwara said, “There is news of five skeletons being found in a house. How long have they been there and who are they. I have asked the police to investigate.” ” ,

“Police are already on the job and samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to know the age and other details. Also, information is being collected about whose house it is and who were living there.

He said, “Details are not known whether they died by suicide or someone killed them. We will know after investigation and forensic report. Till then we cannot say anything or come to any conclusion.”
