Kerala: Big decline in employment exchange system in Kerala

THRISSUR: More than 30 lakh people, registered with the employment exchange are sick and tired of waiting for a job but they continue to do so with a strange hope. From 2021 to November 2024, only 47,390 appointments were made through the Employment Exchange. Out of an average of 33,000 vacancies per year, only 3000 appointments are made through the employment exchange.

It is also indicated that the process has started to cancel the part-time appointments made by the Employment Exchange. In 2004, an order was issued to make all temporary appointments with government wages through the Employment Exchange. Aggravating the already terrible mess, backdoor appointments of party workers continue with impunity. The new generation has no intention of registering with employment exchange as they believe it to be a rugged system that has gone redundant. Following this, employment officers are visiting schools to take copies of SSLC and 12th-standard students’ certificates and register their names. Thousands of people are also registering on private employment exchanges for jobs in private firms. The registration fee is nearer to Rs 500. There are also private firms that take a certain amount from the first salary of the employee.
