Kerala News: 6 Kalamassery Municipality officials infected as dengue cases rise

Kochi. Kochi: At least six officials including the superintendent of Kalamassery Municipality Office have contracted dengue. Dengue fever is spreading in many places in the municipality area. The number of people seeking treatment for symptoms is also increasing. It is believed that the stagnant water after the initial round of rains may be the reason for the spread of dengue. The health department said that preventive measures have been strengthened. What is dengue fever? Dengue fever is a disease caused by the dengue virus, which is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. These mosquitoes thrive in stagnant fresh water. Dengue fever spreads from one person to another through mosquitoes. Dengue is a disease that affects both adults and children. Dengue fever is often detected late because its symptoms are no different from normal viral fever. It starts with a sudden high fever. Initially, symptoms like headache, muscle pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sore throat and mild cough appear. All these symptoms are similar to normal flu. Pain behind the eyes is a characteristic of dengue fever. Precautions to prevent the disease from becoming severe

Professional treatment should be sought in time due to the possibility of a sudden drop in blood platelets.

Drink plenty of fluids
Given the possibility of dengue, drink plenty of fluids even if the fever is mild. Seek specialist treatment in a hospital as soon as possible after giving antipyretic medication. Do not self-treat any fever as it may be contagious.

Prevention is better than cure
The best prevention against dengue fever is to avoid mosquitoes. Therefore, special care should be taken to prevent stagnant water inside and around buildings such as homes and institutions. Indoors, mosquitoes are likely to lay their eggs in standing water containers under flower pots and standing water trays under refrigerators. Clean them at least once a week. Keep water containers and tanks closed. People with fever should take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
