Kim Jong Un arrives at Russia’s aircraft plant

SEOUL: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un headed straight to an aircraft plant that makes fighter jets after arriving in the Russian far eastern city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur following his summit with President Vladimir Putin on Friday. This information was given in the media report. Yonhap news agency quoted local Russian media outlets as saying that Kim arrived at a railway station in the city earlier in the day and was welcomed in accordance with traditions as a special guest. The Russian city has two aircraft plants, the Yuri Gagarin Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant, named after the first man in space, and the Yakovlev Plant, better known as Irkut. Russia’s state news agency Tass said the Yuri Gagarin plant produces advanced warplanes, including Su-35 and Su-57 fighter jets. The Yakovlev plant builds short-haul passenger aircraft. Kim is expected to visit more Russian cities after Wednesday’s summit at the Vostochny spaceport, raising concerns over expanding military cooperation between the two countries. This also includes the possibility of Pyongyang sending more ammunition to Moscow for use in the war in Ukraine. Putin had earlier said Kim would also visit Vladivostok to see Russia’s Pacific Fleet.
