Among all the fasts in Hinduism, the fast of Ekadashi is considered very special, which is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu. The fast of Ekadashi is celebrated on both sides of every month. A total of 24 Ekadashi fasts are observed in such a year. According to the scriptures, the person who fasts on any Ekadashi must follow celibacy, on this day one should stay away from condemnation of others and every wrongdoing. Along with this, onion, garlic and rice should not be consumed while observing fast on Ekadashi and it is better to do Satyag from Dashami Tithi itself, after which fasting should be observed on Ekadashi.
Complete worship method of Varuthini Ekadashi—
Wake up early in the morning on Ekadashi Tithi and take bath etc., after that wear clean clothes and resolve to fast. Along with cleaning the place of worship of the house, sprinkle Gangajal and purify it. Then bathe the idol of Lord Vishnu with Gangajal and install it in the temple wearing clean clothes. Now offer Akshat, lamp and all the worship material to the God and worship it with Vidhaar. Do offer flowers, fruits and basil to Shri Hari. On this day, make sure to offer kheer or melon to the Lord. Chant his mantras while worshiping God. After this, perform the Aarti of the Lord and at the end ask for forgiveness for the mistakes made in worship. Then say your prayer. Now fasting for the whole day, the next day after worshiping in an auspicious time, break the fast.
