Leaders of various parties paid floral tributes to DMDK founder Vijayakanth in Kanchipuram.

Kanchipuram: Leaders of various parties, including DMK, AIADMK, BJP and VCK, paid floral tributes to late actor and DMDK president Vijayakanth at his special floral tribute in Kanchipuram district on Sunday.

Vijayakanth died on December 28 in Chennai at the age of 71 after testing positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

Kanchipuram DMK MLA Ehilarasan and former AIADMK minister and Kanchipuram district secretary V Somasundaram jointly inaugurated the special floral portrait of Vijayakanth, which was decorated with flowers, by DMDK district secretary Ekambaram at Pookadai Chatram area in Kanchipuram.

DMDK officials and volunteers from various parties including DMK, AIADMK, BJP, VCK and Makkal Needhi Maiyam paid tribute to Vijayakanth by sprinkling flowers.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Vijayakanth’s son Shanmuga Pandian took to Instagram Stories to pay his last respects to his father and thank everyone for being his support.

He wrote, “Thank you all for expressing your heartfelt condolences. And to the hundreds of thousands of people who stood on the streets and bridges to pay their respects, your support shows us what kind of legacy our father has left behind.”

The kind of life he has lived and the love he has earned. All of your support provides solace to our family as we cope with this loss. Rest in peace, Dad and our captain.”

He posted a photo of his father walking among the crowd.
Notably, on 29 December, thousands of Vijayakanth’s fans and supporters thronged the Island Ground and DMDK offices to pay their last respects to their beloved Captain Vijayakanth.

Later, DMDK chief and veteran actor Vijayakanth was cremated with full state honors after rituals at the Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kahajagam (DMDK) office in Koyambedu, Chennai, Tamil Nadu this evening.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and other senior ministers attended Vijayakanth’s funeral at the DMDK office. A procession was taken out from the island grounds to the Koyambedu DMDK office. People stood in queues on both sides of Poonamallee Road and showered their love on Vijayakanth.

Seeing the crowd and their love for Vijayakanth, his wife Premlata Vijayakanth and his two sons, who were traveling in the wedding procession, cried. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, Tamil Nadu ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin, M Subramaniam, Thamo Anbarasan, BJP state president Annamalai, Makkal Needhi Maiam chief and actor Kamal Haasan, actor Rajinikanth and many others welcomed Vijayakanth in the island. Gave tribute. Maidan, where his mortal remains were kept for homage.

Celebrities expressed their condolences along with Vijayakanth’s wife and DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth, his brother-in-law Sudheesh and his two sons, Vijay Prabhakaran and Shanmuga Pandian.

Early in the morning on 28 December, supporters stood in a long queue and paid homage to him at the Island Ground in Anna Salai, Chennai. Later, Vijayakanth’s mortal remains were taken in a procession from the Island Ground to the DMDK office.

With full state honours, Vijayakanth was buried at his party office. The rituals were also part of Vijayakanth’s funeral.
Vijayakanth has acted in more than 150 films and is known for action films. President Vijayakanth, as President of Nadigar Sangam, has helped cinema artistes.

Vijayakanth founded his party named ‘Desia Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam’ in 2005. In the 2011 state elections, Vijayakanth’s DMDK won 26 out of 41 seats contested and became the major opposition party.
