Less rain in 4 districts, damage to crops
Raipur: In the coming two days, there may be heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas of the state. The weather will remain cool and people will get relief from humidity. On the other hand, agricultural scientists say that even though the rainfall situation is a little backward, there is enough water for the paddy crop. Crops will be affected only in those areas where there has been very little rainfall. The weather pattern is likely to remain like this for the coming few days. According to the information received from the Meteorological Department, there has been 810.2 mm rainfall in the state from June 1 to September 7, whereas normally there should have been 999.5 mm rainfall. Thus, there has been 19 percent less rainfall in the state. Bijapur district has received maximum rainfall of 1398.1 mm, which is 19 percent more than normal. Also, Surguja has received the least rainfall of 417.7 mm, which is 61 percent less than normal.
Raipur district has received 1003.3 mm rainfall so far, which is 12 percent more than normal. According to the data received from the Meteorological Department, till now the maximum rainfall in the state has been received in Sukma district, where 1166.3 mm rainfall has occurred. 12 districts have received normal rainfall and 13 districts have received deficient rainfall. Also, there has been very less rainfall in one district.
Dean College of Agriculture and Faculty Dean Dr. GK Das said that the state has received more than 800 mm rainfall, which is sufficient for the paddy crop. Paddy crop is such a crop that even if there is no rain for a few days, it does not suffer much damage. The water filled inside the field remains sufficient for the crop. However, in Surguja, Surajpur, Kawardha, Janjgir areas where there has been very less rainfall, the crop may be slightly affected. In other areas, there is no damage to the paddy crop.
