Livestock farmers should take advantage of collective livestock insurance scheme: Dhirendra Khargata
Nuh. Haryana Government is running Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Group Livestock Insurance Scheme to make livestock risk free in the state. Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata said that the main objective of this scheme is to provide economic security to the cattle farmers of Haryana. This scheme is being run by the National Livestock Mission of the Central Government and the joint cooperation of the State Government. Under this scheme, in the last five years, more than 3.90 lakh livestock farmers have established a new dimension by getting insurance of about 8.51 lakh livestock. Till now, insurance claim amount of about Rs 57.92 crore has been distributed to cattle farmers and payment of insurance claim amount of about Rs 9.25 crore is under process. He said that under this scheme, two types of animals have been classified – big animals and small animals. Among the big animals, cow, buffalo, goat, horse, camel, donkey, mule etc. are insured and among the small animals, sheep, goat, pig etc. are insured. Each family can get five livestock units insured. One livestock unit means one big animal or 20 small animals. Along with this, cowsheds can also get their five animals insured. A family means husband, wife and their dependent children. In order to extend the benefit of this scheme to maximum number of livestock owners, the insurance of Scheduled Caste cattle owners is done free of cost and the beneficiaries of other categories of cattle owners can get insurance by paying only Rs 100/200/300 per livestock per year for their big animals and only Rs 25 for small animals. You can get your small animal insured by paying livestock premium every year. According to the milk capacity of the animal, the contribution of the cattle owner is Rs 100, 200 and Rs 300 per livestock per year. Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, Dr. Virendra Sehrawat said that under this scheme, sudden and accidental death of the insured livestock will be covered. After the livestock is insured, only the coverage of accidental death is included for the first 21 days, for which police notification is mandatory and the coverage of accidental death (due to disease) of the animal will start 21 days after the insurance. Theft of livestock is not included in the coverage. Beneficiaries interested in livestock insurance can apply through Saral Portal (saralharyana.gov.in) or through their nearest e-Seva Kendra, Atal Seva Kendra, e-Disha Kendra and Antyodaya Kendra. For this, family identity card, copy of voter and ration card, animal health certificate issued by the veterinarian, bank details etc. will have to be provided.
