‘Love Story’ was ahead of its time, there is nothing old in it: Mishal Raheja
New Delhi. It was 16 years ago when Anurag Basu’s ‘Love Story’ aired and the story of Aakash Sehgal and Shruti Shekhawat left an impact on everyone. Be it the story, the characters or the track ‘Teri Yaadein’ soon became much talked about. Now, actor Mishaal Raheja, who plays Aakash, takes a trip down memory lane and shares why it’s still so relevant.
In a candid chat with IANS, Mishaal said that even after 16 years, people come to him and talk about ‘Love Story’, which first aired in 2007 and went off air in 2008.
Mishal said, “Whenever I go out of Bombay, some fan or the other talks about ‘Love Story’. I’m always living it. People keep reminding me of this.”
On the question of the show’s release, Mishaal replied, “Absolutely… we were ahead of our time even at that time.”
If re-released, will it work with Gen-Z?
The actor replied, “Yes, I think it will work because there is nothing old in that show. Any generation will love that show. I realized that by the grace of God ‘Laagi Tujhse Lagan’ is at No. 1 in every country… there is nothing old in these shows. So, they would definitely prefer to go to a platform where people in the 12-25 age group are viewers.”
Explaining the reason behind the show’s growing fan base at that time, Mishaal said, “The channel was a youth channel. If it had been a GEC or a bigger channel, I don’t think it would have made such a big impact on the generation of that time 16 years ago. We still talk about it.”
The show is not just about the characters and the story. The title track and other songs also played an important role. Mishaal shared an anecdote about the title track of the show. The actor credited filmmaker Anurag Basu for the title track.
“He added good Bengali musicians who were very fast. Anurag Basu also has a good understanding of music. He used to write songs in Hindi himself. The kind of work he does is amazing. He is a genius at what he does.”
Mishal shared that Basu knew what kind of show was needed for the youth and to make such an impact on the youth. He presented the drama correctly.
The actor also shared that he is not in touch with his co-actress Payal Sarkar, who played Shruti. But he is in touch with Ajay Choudhary, who plays Dev, and many other people from the show. (IANS)
