LUDHIANA: Sales declined as kite flyers lost enthusiasm due to foggy weather
With Lohri around the corner, kite flying can’t be left behind! Kites of various shapes, sizes and designs are available in the market and like every year, the demand for customized kites is high.
However, the sale of kites is not picking up due to persistent foggy conditions. A kite seller from Civil Lines said that dense fog and cold weather had spoiled the enthusiasm of kite flyers.
A shopkeeper said, “Due to fog for the last few days, not many people are coming to buy kites. Lohri is around the corner and we hope the weather will clear up by then and the sale of kites will increase.”
However, kites with messages and slogans are in great demand. A shopkeeper at Books Market said they charge an extra Rs 20 for writing slogans on kites using stencils. Barinder Singh said, “Like a child’s first Lohri after birth, the first Lohri after marriage is also an important occasion. My grandson got married recently and I have got their names written on the kites, which will be used to decorate the venue.” A city resident.
