M&A deals reached $22.5 billion
India: India-targeted mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deal activity reached a 16-month high of $22.5 billion in August. That was significantly higher than the $7.9 billion operation seen in the same period last year, according to the Refinitiv study.
Activity in August was significantly higher than the $5.9 billion in M&A activity seen in July 2023. However, M&A performance in terms of number of deals witnessed a decline. A total of 152 M&A deals took place in August 2022. Which was kept at 90 in the same period in 2023. From January to August 2023, total M&A deals were recorded at $55.6 billion. Which marks a sharp decline of 57 percent compared to $132.74 billion seen in the same period last year. Sector-wise, the financial sector accounted for 54 per cent of the total M&A activity. In which the total price of the deal was going to be 30.84 billion dollars. However, it was $69.4 billion in the same period last year. Thus, a decrease of 52 percent was observed on annual basis.
Similarly, if we talk about other sectors, M&A deals worth $6.1 billion were seen in industrial sector, $4.04 billion in hi-tech, $3.62 billion in energy and power, $2.98 billion in realty and $1.93 billion in materials.
