Madhurantakam girl sexually assaulted: Appeal filed in SC seeking voluntary investigation

Tamil Nadu: An appeal has been filed in the Chennai High Court seeking a retrial of the sexual assault case involving a girl from Madhurantakam.
A 17-year-old boy from the Madhurantakam area of Chengalpattu district took two 16- and 14-year-old girls to his hometown on his two-wheeler. On the way to Madhurantakam, two drunk boys on the two-wheeler caused an accident, kidnapped the 14-year-old girl, and sexually assaulted her. Locals rescued the girl and took her to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. Advocate Suryaprakasam, who appeared before a bench of Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arulmurugan of the Madras High Court on Wednesday, stated that incidents of violence against girls have increased in Tamil Nadu in recent times.
He appealed to the Supreme Court to take up the case to investigate the sexual assault incident in Madhurantakam. The judges refused, stating that the case would be investigated only if a public interest litigation was filed.
