Madhya Pradesh: ‘Lauki’ removed from rectum of patient in rare surgery

New Delhi: In an unusual happening, doctors in Madhya Pradesh recently removed a ‘lauki’ (bottle gourd) from the rectum of a patient. The incident reportedly took place in the Chhatarpur district hospital on Saturday.

As per reports, a 60 year old man was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition from Khajuraho following intense abdominal pain.

He was then advised to go through some tests when it was found that a bottle gourd was lodged in his rectum, causing internal ruptures. Accordingly, the doctors decided to carry on an immediate surgery.

A team of doctors operated him immediately. ‘Upon his admission to the hospital, the patient underwent a complex two-hour surgery led by Dr. Manoj Chaudhary, Dr. Nandkishore Jatav, Dr. Ashish Shukla, and Dr. Sanjay Maurya,’ reported News24.

In the surgery the doctors reportedly removed the bottle gourd from the rectum of the patient. Later, they declared that the patient was out of danger. However, it was not clear how the bottle gourd ended up in the rectum of the patient. Reports suggest, the patient was unwilling to reveal anything about this. However, the doctors have suspected that a mental disorder may be related to the reason of the bottle gourd landing in that part of the patient.
