Madhya Pradesh: Pregnant woman dies while waiting for treatment in labor room, on-duty nurse suspended
Bhind: In a heartbreaking incident, a pregnant woman died while waiting for help in the delivery room of Bhind district hospital on Wednesday. The child also died in the womb and was removed after the woman’s death. The family members created a ruckus in the hospital, after which the nurse on duty was suspended. Postmortem of both the bodies was done on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Collector has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter.
According to the information, Phup resident Charan Shakya took his wife Rekha Shakya (35) to the local community health center when she was suffering from labor pain. He was sent to Bhind District Hospital at around 10 am on Wednesday. However, his condition deteriorated at around 2 o’clock in the night, after which he died.
At around 3 o’clock in the night, the victim’s family created a ruckus accusing the hospital of negligence in treatment. The police reached the spot as soon as the information was received.
Bhind Collector Sanjeev Srivastava and Civil Surgeon Dr. Anil Goyal said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the matter, while staff nurse Rajkumari has been suspended.
‘If they had told me in time…’
Rekha’s mother-in-law alleges that she kept pleading with Nurse Rajkumari for treatment, but she ignored her request. Due to this Rekha’s condition worsened. At around 2 am, Rekha was finally taken to the delivery ward. After an hour the nurse came out and said to take Rekha to Gwalior. When we found her, she was already dead,” he said.
Charan Singh said that if he had been informed on time, he would have taken Rekha to Gwalior.
