Mahasamund News: Training given to farmers to promote cultivation of oilseed crops
Mahasamund. In a joint initiative of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mahasamund and Reliance Foundation, Krishi Vigyan Kendra trained the farmers of selected villages Gudrudih, Pirda and Lahingar to promote the cultivation of oilseed crops.
chhattisgarh news In the program, Agricultural Extension Scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr. Rajni Agashe gave detailed information about the work of the center and said that we are dependent on other states for pulses and oilseeds. We have to increase the area of these crops only then we will be able to become self-sufficient. Oilseeds like mustard and groundnut are important for the production of edible oils. Cultivation of these crops saves water and cost. Oilseeds are generally more drought resistant than other crops. This makes them suitable for cultivation in semi-arid areas and in conditions of irregular rainfall, which is becoming common due to climate change.
Agronomy scientist Dr. Nirjharini Nandeha discussed about the main varieties of peanuts, selection of land, preparation of land, preparation of seeds for sowing, method of sowing, use of new machines for sowing, major pests and diseases etc. and gave detailed information to the farmers. The farmer training was conducted by Project Manager Santosh Kumar Singh. Deputy Sarpanch Shri Parmeshwar Dhruv and a large number of farmers were present in the program.
