£42, Rs 1.50 lakh stolen from 13 houses in Coimbatore: 3 arrested

Tamil Nadu: The Housing Board Housing Complex in the Koundampalayam area of ​​Coimbatore has 1,848 homes. A total of 13 homes, including three in Block ‘A’ and 10 in Block ‘C’, were burgled on Friday afternoon. Upon receiving information, the Koundampalayam police arrived at the scene and investigated. They discovered that 42 pounds of jewelry, 500 grams of silver items, and ₹1.50 lakh in cash were stolen from the 13 homes, including 30 pounds from the home of a Land Acquisition Division revenue officer. Police subsequently registered a case and seized surveillance camera recordings from the areas where the incidents occurred. It was discovered that three men from Uttar Pradesh were involved in the theft and were hiding in the Kulathupalayam area near Kuniyamuthur.

Subsequently, around 9 a.m. on Saturday, police arrived and shot dead Aashiq (48), Irfan (45), and Kallu Arif (60). The three injured have been admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital.

A special team led by Koundampalayam Police Inspector Vettiselvi was formed to nab the thieves who broke into homes in the Koundampalayam Housing Board housing complex.

The details of the individuals involved in the theft were obtained through surveillance cameras in the area where the incident occurred and confidential information. It was also learned that they lived in the Kulathupalayam area near Kuniyamuthur. Following this, police, including Police Inspector Vettiselvi and Assistant Inspector Karthik, went to the area on Saturday morning.

The police tried to arrest the thieves, who lived in the Kulathupalayam area. At that time, they attacked them, injuring Head Constable Parthipan’s left hand. Subsequently, the police shot him in the legs in self-defense.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Irfan from Majidpura, Uttar Pradesh, Kallu Arif from Gajjuwala, and Aashiq from Ghazipur.

The 12 individuals from Uttar Pradesh live in the Kulathupalayam area and operate a pottery business. The three approached him two days ago, claiming to be selling clothes. They were roaming around various areas of Coimbatore with the intention of stealing, and they stole from an apartment building in Koundampalayam.

All the jewelry and money stolen from the 13 houses have been recovered. Their fingerprints have been sent to the police in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, suspecting they may be seasoned criminals.

An investigation is underway against the 12 other individuals who lived with them. He said that an investigation is underway to determine whether the auto driver who brought the three individuals to Koundampalayam was also involved in the theft.
