Majestic migratory birds bring joy to Sangati Valley
Arunachal Pradesh: Sangati Valley, located in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, has become an attraction for bird lovers as it hosts three black-necked cranes. These special birds are highly respected as they represent the state bird of Ladakh. Characterized by their medium build, predominantly brown feathers and distinctive black head and neck, these beautiful migratory creatures have opted for a peaceful six-week stay in the Sangati Valley.
Last Saturday, black-tailed storks flew into the valley in search of shelter from the harsh winter weather on the Tibetan Plateau. Since they migrate to Sangti Valley and Gemithang Valley in Tawang district every year, their arrival has become a much-awaited event that attracts the attention of not only the local people but also bird lovers and tourists in the entire region. Due to this defining characteristic it is easy to distinguish these special birds from the common crane species.
The forest department has implemented measures to ensure the well-being of its temporary visitors by enlisting two dedicated volunteers. These compensated individuals play a vital role in the safety and maintenance of proper distance between spectators and cranes. The aim is to preserve the habitat of these birds without harming them, so the authorities also limit the proximity of tourist photography.
Spotting the Black-necked Stork in Sangti Valley not only provides natural pleasure for nature lovers, but it also provides an opportunity for economic development. The arrival of these migratory birds has created a buzz in the valley and tourists are eagerly anticipating seeing their beautiful display and potentially contributing to the prosperity of local businesses. As hospitality services prepare to accommodate this anticipated influx, it is expected that increased tourism will bring significant financial benefits to the area.
By February, Sangti Valley will be graced with the presence of black-necked cranes, which have escaped the harsh cold weather in Tibet. Their annual migration cycle emphasizes the ecological importance of this region and also highlights how delicate a balance is between nature and human intervention. Once their migration is over, they will go back to their breeding areas again for another year.
Bird watchers and nature lovers are attracted to Sangati Valley to witness the impressive cranes that migrate there. In an effort to ensure sustainable co-existence of migratory birds and their vibrant temporary home areas, the local community, forest department and people associated with the tourism industry collaborate together.
