Man accused of burning GF’s parents arrested after 22 years
Mumbai: A 44-year-old man, who evaded arrest for 22 years for allegedly burning his girlfriend’s parents to get her married to someone else, has finally been arrested from Pune. Crime Branch Unit 12 said a case was registered in 2001. A case has been registered at Kurar police station against accused Yashwant Baburao Shinde for the murder of both of them. After some time, he absconded and to avoid the police, he also broke contact with his family.
According to the information received from the Crime Branch, the deceased used to oppose the relationship between Shinde and his daughter. Therefore, they got her married to someone else, which angered the accused. Subsequently, they allegedly burnt Zahrabi Rehman and her husband, who were at the Goodluck Hotel in Kurar at that time. He died during treatment.
Shinde worked as a painter in Pune since 2005.
Shinde’s three associates – Mohideen Shaikh, Nagnath Telange and Venkat Vachwad – were arrested, but Shinde managed to elude the police for more than two decades. He first went into hiding in Bengaluru, after which he came to Pune in 2005 and started working as a painter. He also got married and had two children, but he did not tell his parents about it.
Based on information received from his friends and technical analysis, the police traced Shinde’s location to Kondhwa area of Pune and caught him from his hideout. According to sources, he had called other arrested accused from his house in Latur for help in committing the murders.
Crime branch inspector Sudhir Dalvi said Shinde thought the police would no longer pursue him as 22 years had passed since the crime.
