Man gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment in sexual harassment case
Jind (ANI): A special and fast track court in Haryana’s Jind district has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a sexual assault case in the district. The court headed by Additional District and Sessions Judge Dr Chander Haas took into account the fact that a witness had turned hostile, but the DNA of the accused matched the evidence.
Along with the punishment, a fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on the accused.
In case of default, the convict will have to face additional jail sentence of one year. According to reports, the family of a minor girl reached Sadar Police Station in Narwana city of Jind district on June 14, 2023 and reported that their daughter had gone missing. After a few days, the police successfully traced the girl, who revealed that the accused, identified as Rohtash of Danauda Khurd village of Narwana city, wooed her and forcibly took her away. Subsequently, the accused sexually harassed her and threatened her with harm if she told the truth to anyone.
After this, the police presented the victim before the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) court and recorded her statement. Other sections including IPC (Indian Penal Code) 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or compelling a woman to marry, etc.) and 376 (rape) were added in the case.
The trial proceeded, ultimately with the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) imposing a rigorous prison sentence of 10 years and fine on the accused under the POCSO Act (Section 4). (ANI)
