Man rejects road widening project to save house full of memories
Jammu: In the face of impending destruction, a man’s love for his late wife refuses to die down. Jagmohan Singh, a resident of Jammu, is doing a unique job of preserving the memories of his wife; Moving his entire four-storey house 160 feet away from its original location.
“In 2017, I built this house with my wife with the support of my family. My wife designed every section of this house. It was a labor of love, and it’s full of memories for us. But now, a road widening project is on its way. The National Highway Authority official said it would have to be demolished,” said Jagmohan Singh, owner of the house.
This house was more than just bricks and mortar for Singh and his wife. They built it together in 2017, pouring their love and hard work into every detail. Sadly, Singh’s wife died due to COVID-19, leaving a void in the house that memories helped fill.
Jagmohan Singh has hired a special company to move his entire four-storey house about 160 feet away from the current location to avoid demolition due to the road widening project.
“I can’t even think of losing this house. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It symbolizes our love and our life together. I heard it was possible to flip houses, so I did some internet research. I found a company that specializes in home relocation. He said it would cost around Rs 50 to 60 lakh, but I didn’t care. My wife’s memories are more valuable than anything,” Jagmohan Singh said.
Through his online research, he discovered HSBL, a Haryana-based company that specializes in home lifting and shifting. This innovative technology provided a ray of hope. Despite the huge cost of Rs 50-60 lakh, Jagdeep Singh agreed to shift the house.
“The total cost of shifting the building is around Rs 50-60 lakh as Rs 20-25 lakh is only the labor cost,” Singh said. “We are moving this building up 160 feet. The risk cover is guaranteed by HSBL Company. Somehow, we are trying to save our home, to save my wife’s memories. At that time, the cost of construction of this building was Rs 1 crore. ,
“The company has taken responsibility for any accidents that may occur during the transfer. They are confident that they can move the house safely and efficiently. I know it’s a tall order, but I’m hopeful we can save this house. My daughter says that even though her mother is gone, if we can manage the house, she will always remember her,” Singh added.
HSBL, a Haryana based company has taken the full responsibility of this project, guaranteeing to avoid any mishap during the shifting of the house. The shifting is expected to be completed within the next three months.
HSBL manager Dhoom Singh said, “We are doing the work of the jack.”
HSBL Manager Dhoom Singh concluded, “We are reducing building shifting in the country. We are working on shifting the building. We will do it. The basement has already been dug. We will get it done. This is the first time in Jammu.” ,
