Man sets Guinness World Record as longest serving lawyer
Thiruvananthapuram: P Balasubramaniam Menon, a distinguished lawyer from North Palakkad district of Kerala, has achieved a significant feat in the legal field.
At the age of 97, Menon has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest serving lawyer with an impressive career of 73 years and 60 days.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, “The longest career as a lawyer (male) is 73 years and 60 days, and was verified by Menon P Balasubramaniam (India) on 11 September 2023 in Kerala, India.”
Like any enthusiastic lawyer from a young age, Menon is very active in his profession even at this age and visits offices and courts daily without fail and meets clients.
Menon told a television channel, “When a party comes to me with a case, he comes with confidence in me…I will do whatever I can for him.”
Coming from a traditional family from Palakkad, Menon said that he does not believe in arguing too much in the courts and made it clear that his arguments and cross-examinations are always short.
After completing his legal studies from Madras Law College, Menon began his career in the early 1950s.
If anyone asked him when he was planning to retire, Menon would smile softly.
Menon said, “As long as my health remains good and as long as my parties do not want me, I will continue my practice.” The veteran lawyer also expressed hope that the record could inspire others.
